ST. JOSEPH PRESCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

The St. Joseph Preschool program will be designed to provide for the development of the TOTAL child - the physical, emotional, social, cognitive and spiritual aspects. The atmosphere will be both interactive and engaging where young children will grow in awareness of God, self and others.

Each child is unique in his/her pattern of development, due to their environment and past experiences. The children shall participate in a wide variety of growth experiences within a caring, Christian atmosphere. With parents as partners, the St. Joseph Preschool program will strive to provide experiences of spiritual, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. We strive to make the child’s first educational experience a positive one, where we meet our young children’s spiritual and academic needs

ST. JOSEPH PRESCHOOL PROGRAM GOALS

• To welcome the child into the larger Christian Community and assist parents in raising their children Catholic.
• To fulfill the educational ministry of the church by passing on the faith to our future generation.
• To foster independence and self-confidence.
• To provide experience that aid in the development of appropriate social behavior.
• To encourage cooperation and socialization in large and small groups.
• To develop large and small motor skills.
• To expand the child’s communication skills through listening and speaking activities.
• To develop the child’s potential for thinking and learning, for reasoning and problem solving.
• To nurture the creativity and self-expression of each child through play, art, movement and music.
• To develop the potential for critical thinking and understanding.

ST. JOSEPH PRESCHOOL ADMISSIONS

St. Joseph School, operated under the auspices of the Diocese of Joliet, admits students of any race, sex, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally available to students at the schools. Students preparing to enter St. Joseph School must meet all requirements of the State, Diocese, and St. Joseph Parish/School Policy. The determination for admission made by the pastor and principal is final.

A child entering St. Joseph School’s Three-year old Program must be three years old by September 1st of the entry year. The child MUST be toilet trained by September 1st.

A child entering the Four-year old program must be four years old by September 1st of the entry year. The child MUST be toilet trained by September 1st.

In the admission of students to St. Joseph Preschool, the order of priority admission is as follows:

Admission Priority

1. Siblings of currently enrolled students at St. Joseph School whose parents/guardians are in accord with the expectations and guidelines of St. Joseph School.
2. Children of active registered parishioners of St. Joseph School as demonstrated by regular Sunday attendance, parish involvement, and contributions.
3. Children transferring from other Catholic Schools.
4. Non-Parishioners and transfers from public schools.

A physical examination is required by the State of Illinois for each child upon entering the school for the first time, be that Preschool, Kindergarten, or First Grade and again, at the Fifth Grade level. The examinations records are due on the first day of school. All incoming Kindergartners must be five years of age by September 1. All incoming First Grade students must be six years of age by September 1. In some unique cases, students that do not meet the September 1 requirement may be admitted after further evaluation by the staff and administration.
